Dr. Kim Fasula is the Director of Assessment and Interprofessional Education for Chicago Medical School and has spent a lifetime focusing on healthcare. She has over 30 years of experience in the dental field and has held many roles, including a practicing provider, administrator, researcher, public health advocate, and educator. Dr. Fasula completed a BS in Biology from Loyola University Chicago and earned her RDH at UIC College of Dentistry. Her dedication to lifelong learning inspired her to complete her MS and MPH, focused on epidemiology, at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston before earning her PhD in Health Professions Education from the UIC College of Medicine.

Dr. Fasula has an extensive background in health professions education, which has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of academic medicine. She serves as a content expert on oral/systemic health and has trained dental and medical students, residents, and students across all health professions programs offered at 69É«ÇéƬMS. Notably, she has been a course director for several key courses, including Head and Neck Anatomy, Oral Pathology, Histology and Embryology, Medical Emergencies, Bioethics, Foundations for Interprofessional Practice, and most recently, an M2 elective for Foundations in Medical Education.

Dr. Fasula’s individual contributions as a researcher have garnered much attention and led to several significant projects, in addition to her work mentoring student-led studies. Noteworthy achievements include serving as the PI on a clinical trial at UIC examining associations between oral plaque and cardiovascular disease and an educational research study examining collaborative workplace practice. She remains actively involved in research projects at CMS and the AAMC and is committed to advancing knowledge within our field.

In addition to her role at CMS, Dr. Fasula leads a dental/medical integration program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Department of Dentistry to improve access to care for underserved children. In 2020, Governor J.B. Pritzker appointed Dr. Fasula to the Illinois Board of Dentistry, where she plays a role in licensing, policy, and disciplinary issues for dental professionals across the state. She is also a dental licensing board examiner and sits on several boards, professional associations, and committees nationwide. Dr. Fasula lives with her family and two golden retrievers in Chicago and enjoys golf, yoga, and traveling.
