Position Summary

The Reproductive Medicine and Immunology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Clinical Sciences Department, Chicago Medical School, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is offering a two-year fellow position for the Reproductive Medicine and Immunology Fellowship Program. The 24-month clinical training rotation will offer a graduating OB/GYN resident or junior faculty member in the Department of OB/GYN an opportunity to become a nationally recognized expert in the management of women with early pregnancy loss, recurrent pregnancy losses, implantation failures, pregnancy with auto-/allo-immune conditions and rheumatic diseases. The fellowship will also provide extensive experience with gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound imaging. In addition, the fellow will work with clinical laboratory immunology faculties and learn about various immunological assays. Rotations with other specialties are available, including reproductive endocrinology and infertility, maternal fetal medicine, minimally invasive surgery, and rheumatology. Through the Clinical Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and Immunology, Chicago Medical School aims to train and develop physician-scientists, by providing them with the knowledge and clinical expertise to care for this growing population of women and to serve as educators and program directors in the replication of this program at other academic centers around the country. This is a non-accredited fellowship.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The position of clinical fellow entails provision of patient care matching with the individual physician’s level of advancement and competence. A clinical fellow’s responsibilities include patient care activities within the scope of their clinical privileges commensurate with the level of training, completion of a research project to further the field of reproductive immunology, attendance of clinical rounds, seminars and conferences, timely completion of medical records, and other responsibilities as assigned or as required of all members of the medical staff. Under the supervision of attending physicians, general responsibilities of the clinical fellow may include:

  • Initial and ongoing assessment of patient’s medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
  • Perform history and physical, and development of assessments and treatment plan.
  • Record progress notes.
  • Interpretation of obstetrical and gynecological imaging.
  • Order tests, examinations, medications, and therapies.
  • Arrange for discharge and after care of obstetrical patients
  • Write / dictate initial evaluation notes, progress notes, procedure notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Provide patient education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease processes, and discharge planning.
  • Perform obstetrical and gynecological procedures.
  • Work in a clinical laboratory lab to learn immunological assays.
  • Completion of a research project
  • Education of the staff and students

Required Education & Experience

  • Graduate of a foreign or domestic medical school.
  • Completed at least four years of approved residency training in obstetrics and gynecology within the U.S.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Patient care working with a diverse population.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and all members of staff.
  • Ability to be on rotating call.
