The Physiology and Biophysics discipline is strongly committed to the training of medical and graduate students in physiology and to the advancement of biomedical knowledge through research at the cellular and molecular level to whole organisms. The discipline’s role in medical training is to provide a complete understanding of the cellular, cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, nervous, and endocrine mechanisms involved in the maintenance of homeostasis in the body. In the graduate programs this basic knowledge is complemented by in-depth training in areas of specialization and in the application of state-of-the-art physiological research methods.
